Household Appliance Permits and HIC License Renewal Move to PLUS January 31

Effective January 31, 2022, all customers applying for household appliance permits and scheduling household appliance inspections will apply through the new Planning Land Use System (PLUS).
The new centralized PLUS platform has several customer benefits:
- Customers no longer need to learn multiple platforms to conduct business with land development agencies.
- Customers have one account in PLUS and do not require multiple accounts to interact across agencies.
- The user-friendly system provides a more intuitive interface between the county and its customers.
- A more robust search function is available for customers and county staff for use within the platform.
The first step in using PLUS is registering for a PLUS account.
-
Once customers create an account, a system-generated email is sent with instructions. - Customers who begin a household appliance application in FIDO prior to the transition to PLUS will need to complete the application in PLUS after January 31.
- For example, if a customer starts a permit application in FIDO on January 15, but does not complete the process and print the permit, the customer will receive an email notification to register for a PLUS account and finish the permit application process in PLUS.
- On January 31, Home Improvement Contractor License (HIC) renewal will be available in PLUS. (Applications for a county license (for class C work) transferred to PLUS in 2021.)
PLUS is being released over several phases. By fall 2022 PLUS will be Fairfax County’s central platform for customers to complete building, zoning, permitting and other land development processes.
Find important information and instructions for these Land Development Service-related changes on Your LDS Guide to PLUS as well as the PLUS Support Center page. These pages also provide contact information for questions and “How To” videos.
Please Note the Following:
- PLUS will replace FIDO, ProjectDox and PAWS in a phased rollout. More information to come.
- To view legacy FIDO household appliance applications, please use Land Development information History (LDIH) located at LDS Public Records.
