Fairfax County Land Development Services (LDS) has issued Technical Bulletin 22-07 Building Trade Permit Fees and Review Process Changing October 31, 2022

Summary: Building trade permit fees and the associated review process will be amended concurrently with the launch of the Planning and Land Use System (PLUS) Release 4 on October 31, 2022.

Effective Date: October 31, 2022

Background: Commercial and residential building trade permits (plumbing, electrical, and HVAC/mechanical) are currently issued automatically at the time of application through Land Development Service’s (LDS) online building permit system, Fairfax Inspections Database Online (FIDO). Staff does not currently review trade permit applications. While this process creates immediate permit approval, it has generated countless permit amendments resulting in a high number of mis-applied-for trades permits.
